from where the gadgets are coming in the screen shots..........I tried to find what it is I didn't got it what is it? Is it a third party tool..........? can u give a link to me.........? thanks..........
what exactly do you think it's too black: the taskbar or the window frame? these are the only elements skinned in the shoot... personally I really like the taskbar a lot but I'm not totally convinced about the window frame... it has a 1px glow around it before the shadow which is cool and all but I dunno... something is missing. I'm not really into black/dark window frames because they are not really easy on the eyes and usability is king for me. The taskbar on the other hand looks pretty cool even though it's really dark. what do you think?
Actually It is the window frame that had been too black. You know that we are kinda stucked to window frames all day long as soon as we don't make apps fullscreen. And what windows sucks is that all their default windows frame look awful and gradually kill us every second of the day.
The blackish feeling of this new windows frame even reminds some of the Vista experience, which looks fancy at first and soon exhausts my eyes. So I think we share the same attitude on the usability side.
I think the part missing in the window frame is |Life|. Like what you did in the minimal taste flat, the grey gradient brings purity to life and easy for us to stay all day long enjoying watching it. Though I said earlier a little bright color would make it even better to see. (That's exactly why the tiny part of Traffic light buttons in Mac OS impresses people that much. They just pop out.)
And in the new all black window frame. Nothing pops out. And I always felt it alive only when something pops out just like saying, look at me~~ XD
As the taskbar goes, it look gorgeous. The progress color, even only 1px or 2 colorful, gives the feeling of poping out. I loved it!
We're on the same page here... the concept here was to give the windows frame the same color and transparency as the taskbar... it looks ok but it's not really practical. One cool thing about the frame are the caption buttons which have a really cool morphing effect... I'm talking about the glyphs to be precise. And if I make the frames just transparent, they will look so plain and much like other 90% of windows themes and I really don't want to do that! I'll try keeping the top frame dark and leaving the rest transparent and vice versa. Now just to get some time on my hand and I'm good to go. Glad you like the taskbar though... I've spent quite some time making it look good. I'll post some screenshot with the progress of my next theme to get some feedback so stay tuned! Thanks for your feedback!
through your minimal taste flat I know your theme would be a great one because you understand how a great theme work and modifies Windows theme with less distracting elements and emphasizes the key ones. Do put up your WIP updates. I can't wait to see the final version.
thanks but I'm not sure what you're saying... are you asking me if I have a smaller version of this taskbar? in this case I can't make the taskbar any smaller. and hopefully by the end of the month I will finish this new theme.
sorry to disappoint you but I dont have a release date. I am really busy right now, got many deadlines and clients breathing down my neck. and they are my no 1 priority right now. plus I also got a life u know. The theme is being made using windows style builder.
I don't think ur Creating Start Orbs skills are the problem here... by the look of this it doesn't seem you have any sens on graphic design whatsoever. My suggestion to you is: start reading a Graphic Design Book! and then practice, practice, practice!
I'm sorry I haven't gotten the chance to really work on it yet. But this does look pretty good! I think when I start working on mockups again, I'm going to try a metro theme, since that seems to be all the rage, and I haven't seen any good ones yet.
maybe i have 1 single issue but instead of here i want to talk about this in a im.
and about the linux stuff ...maybe i found a good slution for both of us (i'm talking about the lack of drivers and codecs in ubuntu 11.04) - just in case you don't already know this: [link] . i think its worth a try.
gonna try the new linux mint 11... once they update their LMDE release I'll try that as well. don't like the new KDE 4... plasma seems so shitty, slow and unstable... every time I tried it, I somehow managed to crash it.
The new KDE 4.6 is alot better than the old ones. It runs fine on my computers, one is a low end acer laptop and the other is a dual Xeon/Nvidia gaming computer. KDE 3.x is still much more stable but it doesn't have all the features of 4.x which I am getting so used to
I'm missing my eye candy which is unnecessary, but I like. Also along with that are the window manager things like a cover flow Alt+Tab and having it maximize windows when you drag them to the screen edges. And Plasma, I love having plasma widgets. I hate Compiz and KWin is much better in KDE4, and rewrites in most of the KDE apps that I use most (Dolphin, Kmail, Kpatience, Kate, Konsole, ect) make it much more efficient and easy for me.
